Sound Beginnings provides many opportunities to dance and move along to the beat because humans have an innate desire to move to music, even in infancy. In fact, babies respond to the rhythm and tempo of music more than they do to speech, and the better they are able to synchronize their movements with the music, the more they smile. Perhaps we are born to dance!

Dancing benefits the body and the brain! Physically, dance increases muscle strength and flexibility. It improves balance, coordination, and posture. Dancing affects the brain by releasing endorphins that can improve mood and reduce stress levels. Recent studies suggest it improves memory and boosts the connectivity between cerebral hemispheres. It also provides an opportunity for creativity and can increase self-confidence.

Optional home fun activity:

Color the “Frog Dance” Smart Moves page on page 15 in your workbook

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
