It’s likely your child already has a favorite song or activity from class. It’s also likely they want to do it over and over again! For children, repetition is not only comforting, it is the key to learning and mastery. In fact, they are learning something new or strengthening existing knowledge/skills with every repetition!

Nursery rhymes boost language development and help prepare children for further literacy skills by introducing speech patterns and rhyming words. These rhymes are also part of a centuries-old tradition that used easy-to-remember rhymes as a way to pass on traditional practices and stories to younger generations.

Fun Fact: ‘Jack Be Nimble’ is believed to describe the practice of candle jumping which originated in England in the 1600s. Jumping over a lit candle without toppling the candle or extinguishing the flame was believed to bring good luck.

Optional home fun activity:

Make the candlestick on page 25 In the student workbook

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
