In addition to incorporating musical skills such as rhythm and beat, vocal and pitch development, and classical music experience, Sound Beginnings classes also include activities to help your child develop in other areas. Many of our activities promote the use of fine and gross motor skills, and each class also includes activities that support literacy and other kindergarten skills, providing children with a solid foundation for future learning in all areas of their life!

“Higher order thinking skills” are skills and concepts that require more cognitive processing from the brain. Learning about opposites is the initial step toward a particularly useful higher-order thinking skill called comparative thinking. Comparing and contrasting demands more of our brain than rote memorization and when these types of higher-order skills are encouraged and practiced, children become more effective learners and more innovative in their problem-solving abilities.

Optional home fun activity:

Make the opposites puzzle pieces on page 27 in your student workbook

(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
